Half-time in Brussels.

Bruxelles-Propreté chooses the Econic – 95 times over.

"95 new trucks for household and business waste disposal" – that was the description given in the public call for tender issued by Brussels' waste disposal company Bruxelles-Propreté. Two Econic models won the tender and at the end of last year, the 50th vehicle was ceremoniously handed over.

Large-scale replacement.

Besides being responsible for street cleaning in Brussels, Bruxelles-Propreté is also in charge of waste disposal for the Brussels-Capital region – and is on the road on a daily basis with a fleet totalling 750 vehicles. The vehicles are spread across the department's ten works yards. And to ensure that economic efficiency and technology are kept at the cutting edge, the waste disposal fleet is being progressively replaced. That currently means it is the turn of a pool of 95 vehicles to undergo transformation – all of them will be replaced by the two Mercedes-Benz models Econic 2630 6x2 with trailing axle and Econic 1830 4x2.

The staggered deliveries began in 2017 and is expected to be complete by 2020. At half-time at the end of 2018, the 50th vehicle was handed over: an event which was celebrated with a ceremonious key handover.

Appeals to the heart and the mind.

The new acquisitions are the result of a long process: "For Brussels, this represents a major investment. Each decision has to be properly contemplated and approved at several hierarchical levels. But Mercedes-Benz has made a decisive difference in combining perfect technical support with an attractive price," explains André Dewilde, Head of Fleet Management for Bruxelles-Propreté.

With perfect technical support, Mercedes-Benz has made the decisive difference.

Additionally, the Special Truck offers additional advantages thanks to its DirectVision cab. The optimal line of sight and excellent ergonomics of the Econic were one of the fundamental requirements imposed by the Fleet Manager and his team: "It's for precisely this reason that the Econic from Mercedes-Benz was an interesting proposition for us from the off." What's more, the professional waste disposal vehicle has proven its worth in other cities, showing that it is more than suited to working in the tight confines of urban conurbations – just the thing for Bruxelles-Propreté as the two new models will predominantly be working in the Schaerbeek, Neder-Over-Heembeek and Bempt (Forest) districts.

"Our employees also really like the comfort which the low-entry cab offers them in combination with the vehicle's great manoeuvrability. Accordingly, even the tightest of streets pose no problem during work," continues André Dewilde. And there's a good reason for that: the triple-axle Econic 2630 with Rotopress are equipped with a trailing axle which guarantees very good manoeuvrability.

Completely care-free.

The Brussels waste disposal team receives all-round support from their Mercedes-Benz Partner in Sint-Pieters-Leeuw. "It's a really valuable advantage. After all, the operational state of our trucks is a key to our success – and in the event of a problem, we need to move fast. That's only possible if you have a professional partner close at-hand." André Dewilde is more than happy. And he's ready for the next 45 Econic deliveries.
