Debut at InterForst.

Unimog at the leading international trade fair for forestry and forestry technology.

The InterForst trade fair in Munich has long been a fixed date in the annual calendar for forestry workers and forestry professionals. New vehicle solutions and equipment innovations for use in forestry are regularly presented at this trade fair. This year for the first time with its own special stand: the Unimog.

From 18 to 22 July 2018, the 13th InterForst trade fair in Munich was all about working in the forest. Scientific events and special shows rounded off the programme of the five-day exhibition. As an all-rounder in the forest, the Unimog celebrated its fair premiere this year – and presented its persuasive arguments for forest administrations and contractors at booth 1010/3 in the open-air grounds F10. Three highlight exhibits demonstrated the range and flexibility of Unimog applications.

InterForst 2018 in detail.

  • 75,000 m² of exhibition space
  • more than 50,000 visitors from over 70 countries
  • 453 exhibitors

Unimog U 529 with tandem push-off trailer ASS 271 GIGANT from Fliegl.

In addition to two other exhibits, the Unimog U 529 with a tandem push-off trailer from Fliegl could be seen at the Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks stand. The rugged Fliegl push-off system is also ideally suited for heavy cargo, as no sensitive wear parts are installed. This means that wood chips and other materials can be transported reliably throughout the year.

Unimog U 530 with chipper HEM 583 Z from Jenz and crane.

A must for professional logging: a chipper that turns shrubbery and trunk wood into wood chips on the spot. For the Jenz chipper HEM 583 Z, this task is an easy one when combined with the Unimog U 530. Trunks up to about 56 cm in diameter are easily processed by the compact special body. And even several trunks at the same time are no problem for this specialist. The trailer chipper gets the power needed for its task from the rear PTO of the Unimog. 300 horsepower is enough, while other systems need twice as much power for the same result.

Sascha Voß carries out forestry work and earthwork with a 300 hp Unimog U 530.

Thanks to the power of the Unimog, only finger-sized, top quality wood chippings are left from 5 m long trunks within minutes, which are discharged via a hydraulic blower or a conveyor belt. Visitors to InterForst in Munich could experience this power live. During three daily live demonstrations at the exhibition stand, the Unimog U 530 demonstrated its capabilities with a crane and chipper.

Unimog U 530 L with high-level bucket loader body HK – S 6000/15 from Chemnitzer Fahrzeugbau Huber.

The third exhibit to be seen at the Unimog stand at InterForst was a Unimog U 530 L with high-level bucket loader body. The L in the name stands for the long wheelbase of the equipment carrier with 3,900 mm. The all-rounder shown with a body by Chemnitzer Fahrzeugbau Huber scores not only in forestry, but can also be used in landscaping, for disposal, for intermediate transports and filling large containers. The body combination provides shredded material through a front chipper and an integrated cable winch. After the work has been completed, the shredded material can be transferred without any further aids, and trailer operation is also possible without restriction.

All components of the vehicle solution are coordinated. The Unimog U 530 with power take-off shaft and power hydraulics forms a perfect basis for the body. The high-level bucket loader has a basic loading volume of 15 m3, which can be expanded to 55 m3 with a trailer. The cable winch with the cable outlet at the rear guarantees a 250° operating range and can be operated by radio remote control. The front chipper has a 340 mm wide infeed and can process logs up to 300 mm in diameter.
